In this class you will learn the basic functionality and features of PPC's SMART Practice Aids while gaining a greater understanding of how SMART works together and integrates with the other products under your Thomson Reuters umbrella. You will see how to easily access important Installation and Implementation guidance and support. Also, you will learn how to create, customize and tailor client and master engagements for small, noncomplex entities beginning with a complete set of pre-tailored practice aids. As well as, creating client and master engagements using filtering questions that will streamline and tailor your practice aids and audit programs.

PPC’s SMART Practice Aids – Risk Assessment is an innovative audit tool that uses patent-pending risk assessment technology to dynamically generate customized audit programs based on risk assessments.

PPC’s SMART Practice Aids - Internal Control guides you through a top-down, risk-based approach for efficiently and effectively evaluating internal control over financial reporting.

PPC’s SMART Practice Aids – Disclosure is a comprehensive financial statement disclosure to help you save time and ensure compliance with all disclosure requirements.

SMART Practice Aids provides a set of steps for each audit program that you choose to generate for an engagement, but you have the option to modify any of the steps, add new steps, or remove steps. In addition to dragging steps between the center pane and the right pane as a way of adding or removing steps, you can also create and compose a new step, edit an existing step, or permanently delete a user-created step.

 

Following a rollforward operation in SMART Practice Aids, you can use the Affirm and Affirm All options to identify data that you want to keep from the prior period engagement.

 

During the Risk Assessment section of SMART Practice Aids, you must decide whether to document your assessment by audit area or assertion. If you choose Assertion, you then rank both inherent risk and control risk for each of the six assertions at a level of Low, Moderate, or High (or Not Relevant, if applicable). SMART Practice Aids calculates the assessed risk of material misstatement for each assertion and then suggests an audit approach for the audit area, based on the overall assessment.

 

When you create a new engagement from a prior period engagement using the SMART Practice Aids Rollforward feature, you have the option to specify for each audit program whether you want to bring the audit program intact from the prior period engagement or regenerate the audit program. There are benefits to either option, depending on circumstances.

 

The SMART Practice Aids options Transfer and Receive provide a useful way to share an engagement with another user or to move a live engagement from a server onto a portable device such as a laptop in order to perform field work.
